Web-based film “Carousel” wins at Cannes


Tribal DDB takes Cannes Film Grand Prix

This interactive film promotes picture quality of the Philips Cinema, a TV with cinema proportions. There are hot spots throughout the film with special effects editor and director giving an insight into the production process and thus showcasing the features of Cinema. The user can navigate through the film with mouse drag and by timeline which indicates the making of sequence hot spots.

Patrick Burgoyne from CR blog wrote: After the Dove web film from two years back, the Film jury once again favoured an internet-based idea over traditional commercials, leaving us to wonder whether a straight commercial will ever again win what was once seen as the biggest prize of them all at Cannes. Carousel explores the techniques of filmmaking. At 2 minutes 19 seconds long it was filmed in one continuous tracking shot.

MÜ is a multimedia installation featuring children fairy tales. MÜ is intended for infant schools (5 – 6 years old kids).

The educational purpose of MÜ is the early learning of hearing, musical and creation, through activities that can be played alone or in group. MÜ is an installation with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. The table contains a square screen, with which one can interact either with fingers or with specific tangible objects. The application reacts with animated images and sounds. Read more

In this animation film, Norman McLaren imparts unusual activity to an old French-Canadian nonsense song. Simple white cut-outs on pastel backgrounds, many by Evelyn Lambart, provide lively illustrations. The folksong “Mon Merle” is sung in French by the Trio Lyrique of Montreal.
