translation 02 design report available

Werkbericht (Design Report) No. 9 translations 02
wanderlust. changing visual identities
Translations is a conference hosted by School of Design Mainz, Germany at the Department of Communication Design. The conference analyses and discusses current design issues in regular intervals and a design report of this event is now available. It documents the lectures, exhibitions and events and is further complemented with additional aspects generated by discussions at and after the conference.
The most recent event „translations 02 – wanderlust. changing visual identities“ (German title „fernweh. positionen zur identität im design “) reviews the positions between near and far, the known and the unknown. Which individual strategies are adopted by designers in light of an increasingly globalised culture that consumes individual statements at fast pace? Are visual design concepts in any way able to contribute to shaping cultural identity?
Questions like these were at the core of contributions from Switzerland, Holland, United Kingdom, France, the Czech Republic and Germany. A review of current design approaches were paired with a view at individual design projects from diverse historical, cultural and individual backgrounds.
contributors are: Ruedi Baur, Erik Spiekermann, Florian Pfeffer, Vier5, Bastard-Project, K&K, Mark Terkessidis, Johannes Bergerhausen, Thomas Manss, Filip Blažek, Rodrigo Castañeda and Barbara Knorpp.

LED sheep animating pong
Remember those BA ads by Saatchi in 1989 with the giant body parts in the countryside, much like Wiltshire’s giant man? Well replace the coloured shirt wearing humans with LED sporting sheep and you’ve got sheep LED pong.
